Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then found many other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.

An important representative stated the attack made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
